What will you learn?

This is an explaination on what you're going to learn in French 9-10 at R.C. Palmer. For Grade 9, the goals of this class center on building self-awareness for career planning (linking identity and passion to community needs) and acquiring practical career readiness skills (collaboration, research, decision-making). For Grade 10, the goals of this class involve critical analysis of French texts (identifying themes, bias, symbolism, and evaluating validity) and effective communication (planning, summarizing, building evidence-based arguments, using appropriate style and grammar, and ethical expression).

"Le cœur a ses raisons que la raison ne connaît point."
"The heart has its reasons that reason knows nothing of."
-Blaise Pascal

Will the class be taught entirely in French or will there be some English?

In Grade 9 French, teachers generally do not teach entirely in French because the curriculum structure reduces overall French exposure, and student proficiency levels are diverse; occasional English use is necessary to clarify complex instructions and ensure comprehension of academic concepts for all learners.

In Grade 10 French, teachers continue to move away from using French exclusively because the Immersion model further integrates English subjects, reducing the instructional time spent in French. This transition, combined with the increasing complexity of high school material and the ongoing need to accommodate students with diverse language backgrounds, requires occasional strategic use of English to ensure clarity and full academic comprehension of advanced concepts, literary analysis, and assessment demands, ensuring the language barrier does not obstruct learning the subject matter.
